Experience of Google AI: Inside the House of AI Magic

AI
After BARD, Google is coming up with its latest AI model ‘Search Generative Experience’ or SGE which has the potential to revolutionize the way we search for information. This Generative AI model uses topic overview, guides and conversational methods to answer questions, and can be a formidable answer to ChatGPT’s challenge to Google.

Introduction

In our Review of the emergence of ChatGPT and its effects on Google, we predicted that Google will soon get back in the game with more powerful Google AI models than BARD.

And it is happening!

As the world celebrates ChatGPT, we keep our eyes on Silicon Valley and find something interesting. This Review is about to reveal the upcoming AI model from Google, which will revolutionize search in a never-before-seen way.

Search with Generative Google AI: Search Generative Experience (SGE)

Soon, the interface of the Google search page that we see now after making a search is going to change forever. At present, we get a list of webpages as search results, and sorting the most relevant ones is our job, which is time-consuming. It’s a gap where ChatGPT gave Google search a tough time.

But what if Google can give a comprehensive answer to your search, and not only that, but it can also guide you to pages relevant to your search?

Don’t rush to your Google browser just yet because this feature named ‘Search Generative Experience‘ may not be available right now in your country. It is still in the development stage and only users in the US, India, and Japan have access to it.

Google Search is constantly evolving, and one of the most exciting new developments is the use of generative google AI. Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that can create new text, images, and other content. This is in contrast to traditional AI, which is better at understanding and responding with existing information.

Google is using generative AI to create a new type of search experience called Search Generative Experience (SGE). SGE uses generative google AI to generate an overview of a topic, including key points, relevant images and videos, and links to additional information. You can also ask SGE follow-up questions to get more information about a topic.

Let us see an illustration of how SGE works:

See the difference?

Instead of a simple definition and list of related web pages Google is now providing a tab at the top of the page with a detailed overview of the topic including key features. It also suggesting the most relevant web pages that you can consult to know more about the topic. Besides, with SGE Google is trying to develop a conversational relationship with the users and that’s why a ‘follow up’ question button is added at the bottom of the tab. Here you can ask more questions about the topic and Google will answer in a conversational way.

Once you tap the ‘Ask a follow up’ button it will open a chat page where you can type further questions. There will also be some ready-made questions (as you can see beside the follow up button) to provide you with more relevant information about the topic. Let’s go through the top features of Google SGE.

Top Features of Google SGE

Top Feature

1. AI-powered Overview:

SGE can generate short summaries of a topic, providing a quick and easy way to get the gist of the information. These generative AI powered overviews, or as Google prefers to call it, snapshots are ‘jumping-off points’ from which users can explore a wide range of related contents across the web by the links provided.

2. Suggested next steps:

SGE can also suggest next steps for you, such as related questions to ask or other resources to explore. This can help you to learn more about a topic or to take action on something that you have learned.

3. Conversational mode:

SGE can also be used in a conversational mode, where you can ask follow-up questions and get more detailed information. This can be a helpful way to get a deeper understanding of a topic or to troubleshoot a problem.

4. Visualizations:

SGE can also generate visualizations, such as charts and graphs, to help you understand the information. This can be a helpful way to see trends and patterns that may not be obvious from text alone.

5. Multilingual support:

SGE is available in multiple languages, so you can use it to search for information in your preferred language.

How To Use SGE

If you are living in a country other than the USA, India and Japan, then you have to wait until Google releases this feature in your country.

Once that is done, update the Google application on Android/Apple smartphone or MacIOS/Windows computer for the latest version.

Once updated, open the app and you will find a ‘Lab’ icon on the left of Google logo and SGE screen will show up.

Now type your question in the usual manner and the SGE will start working for you. You can navigate the SGE screen.

Conclusion

Google SGE is still under development, but it has the potential to revolutionize the way we search for information. By providing more comprehensive and informative search results, SGE can help us to learn more, make better decisions, and be more productive.
